The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Orczy

This is one of my favorite books!

The Scarlet Pimpernel is about two people, Marguerite St. Just Blakeney and the Scarlet Pimpernel.  The Scarlet Pimpernel is like a superhero; he rescues French aristocrats from the guillotine during the Reign of Terror.  No one knows how he does, or what he looks like, but he is a hero in the English court, especially to the ladies.

Marguerite, on the other hand, is a good looking, French actress.  She is super sharp and witty, who decides to marry the most fopish fop to ever fop, Percy Blakeney, Baronet.  Something went very wrong very soon after they got married, and they become estranged within 24 hours of their wedding.  One of Marguerite’s “old friends” from Paris, Chaevlin, winds up blackmailing her into helping him find the Scarlet Pimpernel using Marguerite’s brother.

Do they find the Scarlet Pimpernel?  Does Marguerite stand up to Chaevlin?  Do Marguerite and Percy ever patch things up?  What happens to Marguerite’s brother?  Who is the Scarlet Pimpernel?  And most importantly…

What is Percy Blakeney wearing to the next court party?

Read the book and find out!!!!!!!
